A pair of Good Looking Sibu Tugs

The tug Surya Ratna 10 along with her sistership Surya Wira 15 were delivered to their Singapore owners, International Bulk Trade Ltd., in June. The two 32.1x9x4.2-meter tugs have the classic raised foc’s’le design with the double chine hull representative of Sibu’s naval architect team at United Ship Design. The bows of the vessels are characterized by a rake to the water line with fendering extending down the plum section of the bow below the 3.3-meter waterline.

A pair of Cummins KTA50-M2 main engines, each producing 1600 hp at 1800 RPM, were supplied by Scott & English (Malaysia). The mains turn 2,400 m/m diameter propellers in nozzles, mounted on 8-inch stainless steel shafts, through Twin Disc MG-5506 gears with 6:1 ratios. A pair of Cummins 6BT5.9(M) 78 kw gensets provide electrical power with a smaller Yanmar-powered genset for harbour power.

On deck a 40-ton towing winch is supplemented by a 40-ton towing hook and a three-ton capstan. Accommodations are provided for up to 15 crewmembers. Tankage is built into the hull for 201 tons of fuel, 22-tons of fresh water, 31-tons of ballast water.

The sister tugs Surya Ratna 10 and Surya Wira 15 have a 12-knot design speed and a designed bollard pull of about 40 tons.
