Solid Tug from Yong Choo Kui Shipyard

Yong Choo Kui is one of Malaysia’s more versatile shipyards working in aluminum for highspeed ferries and steel for tugs and offshore supply vessels. Located in Sibu, Sarawak East Malaysia, the yard delivered a robust 3200 hp tug in early May of 2008. The Kenryo is 33.2 meters by 9.76 meters with a 4.3-meter molded depth. The new boat was designed by Wang Sang & Associates Sdn Bhd of Sibu and delivered to Greenbay Marine Pte. Ltd. of Singapore. www.greenbay.com.sg

The tug is powered by a pair of Cummins KTA50-M2 diesels each generating 1600 hp at 1800 RPM and turning nozzled 2300 by 1560 m/m 4-blade propellers through Reintjes WAF665L gears with 5.95:1 ratios. This gives the vessel a top speed of 13.2 knots, a 12.4-knot cruising speed and a bollard pull of about 42 tonnes.
Mounted on deck there is a 40-ton double-drum towing winch supplied by Marinelead Machinery (Taixing) Pte Ltd who also supplied the hydraulic anchor windlass and other hydraulic equipment. Two Cummins-powered 78 kW generators meet the Kenryo’s electrical needs. Accommodations are provided for a crew of nine. The tug is classed by BV and is 379 GRT and 111 NT.
