477 February 2008 Diverse Fleet, Busy Yard
With many years of experience with 225 and 315 hp Cummins B series engines and QSM11 Teddy Tarmidji is building a 38-meter anchor handling tug with a pair of 1600 hp Cummins KTA50 engines. Based in Samarinda, East Kalimantan, Indonesia, Tarmidji oversees a shipyard, Pt. Galangan Teluk Bajau Kaltim, and a fleet of vessels, Pt. Pelayaran Teluk Bajau Cipta Sejahtera. The fleet includes 125 11x3.4-meter 12 passenger crew boats. Each of these has a pair of Cummins 6BT series engines driving jets. The jets allow for access to oil production wells in the huge swamp area along the coast of Kalimantan and around the mouth of the Mahakam River. It is also these shallow waters that have defined the company’s 14 water-jet propelled fireboats. A pair of Cummins 610 hp QSM11 engines powers each 30-knot 16x3.5-meter fireboat and a pair of the 6BT-powered engines provides power for the 400 cubic-meter per-hour fire pumps.
The company is now building a 38-meter anchor-handling tug with an 11-meter beam and 3.8-meter molded depth. The new vessel will be Indonesian registered with a pair of Cummins KTA50 main engines each generating 1600 hp at 1800 RPM. The vessel will also have a bow thruster. The tug will have a 30-ton winch capacity and a 50-inch by six-meter stern roller. Fuel and water tanks will be 250 and 100 cubic meters respectively. Delivery is anticipated for mid-2009. 525-501, 500-476, 475-451, 450-426, 425-401, 400-376 |
