C&G Yard Crowded with Crewboats

C&G Yard
The crewboats Cheryl Tide and JoLynn Tide at C&G shipyard last September.

Following hard on the heels of the recently delivered M/V Gayla Graham (Hotips#441) C&G Boat works has multiple vessels in all stages of construction with still more on the order books. The firm’s 12-acre yard in Mobile Alambama is packed with vessels. Four crewboats are currently lined up along the riverside in various states of completion with several more hulls coming together in the fabrications sheds behind them.

Scheduled for delivery in October are the M/Vs JoLynn Tide and the Cheryl Tide. These are numbers 10 and 11 in a series of the 175x34-footers for Tidewater Marine. These vessels are classed as Sub-Chapter L with smaller passenger capacities but larger cargo capacities. Powered by four Cummins KTA50-M2 engines generating a total of 7200 hp these boats are licensed to carry 36 passengers as well as fresh water and larger tanks of fuel. They are also capable of carrying liquid mud. Both these vessels are fitted with drop-down azimuthing bow thrusters.

Also scheduled for a late fall delivery is the M/V Alioth for Rigdon. This is one of four 7200 hp, 165-foot Sub-Chapter T boats for Rigdon Marine. The class of crewboat will carry 80 passengers. Four Cummins KTA50-M2 engines with Reintjes gears will also power them.

Lying across the bows of the three boats above is another Rigdon crewboat. This vessel, the M/V Hammerhead, is one of six 55-meter (180-foot) fast supply vessels so designated because of the Sub-Chapter L classification that allows them to carry cargo while limiting them to 36 passengers. Powered by four Cummins KTA50-M2 engines each delivering 1800 HP to Reintjes gears these vessels are capable of carrying large quantities of liquid mud, fuel and water to the rigs at speeds over 20 knots.
