437 August 2007 Handy 23-Meter Tug For Indonesia
There is a steady demand for tugs to work among the approximately 6,000 inhabited islands that stretch 5,000 km (3200 mi) along the equator to make up the nation of Indonesia. While many of these tugs are quite large others, such as the Bahara 25, recently delivered from Forward Shipbuilding, are a handier size. Although registered in Singapore that Bahara 25 will spend much of her time working in Indonesian waters. A pair of 600 hp Cummins KTA19 M2 engines powers the 23-meter Bahara 25. The engines turn up to 1800 RPM into Reintjes WAF364L marine gears with 6.048:1 reduction ratio. Two Cummins-powered generators provide 28 kW each for the vessel’s electrical requirements. On deck a 20-ton towing hook by Kolison Industry of Sibu connects the vessel’s 1200 hp to the towline and barge. The towing hook is fitted with a quick release mechanism and surge absorber.
