431 August 2007 More Tugs From Sibu’s Rajang Maju Shipbuilding
As of early August Sibu’s Rajang Maju Shipbuilding had two sets of tugs building. The larger pair of tugs are the Highline 59 and Highline 69. These raised fo’csle, 32x9.14-meter tugs are designed by United Ship Design, also of Sibu. One of a number of Sarawak Malaysian yards enjoying considerable success, Rajang Maju, expects to deliver the two boats in March 2008. A pair of Cummins KTA50-M2 engines each will power the tugs. The engines generate 1600 hp at 1800 RPM. The engines are coupled to Reintjes WAF-665 gears with 5.950:1 ratios and turning propellers in nozzles to give the boats a design bollard pull of 40 tons. Electrical power is provided by a pair of Cummins 6BT-powered 80 kW generators. Tankage on the vessel includes 220 tonnes of fuel oil, 32 tonnes of fresh water and 24 tonnes of ballast water. On deck the tugs will be fitted with a towing winch and a 40-tonne towing hook. An anchor handling-style live roller is built into the transom with a portable guardrail to offer crew protection. Port and starboard doors are built into the bulwarks.
Accommodation is provided for a complement of 14 crew with separate cabins for the captain and chief engineer in the deckhouse just below the wheelhouse. Two cabins each for two men are located on the main deck level of the raised foc’sle along with the galley, mess room and washing spaces. Three cabins forward and below deck have bunks for another eight crewmembers. In the wheelhouse a set of aft controls set between the stacks make the tug handy for working with the deck winch at sea.
