Big Power for Korean Ferry

Korean Ferry
The engines exhaust through the transom.

The Hankook Shipbuilding Company of Sacheon City Korea delivered in June 2007 a new car ferry to owner Jeong Gyu Sang. A pair of Cummins QSK60-M engines powers the 60.15 by 11 meter boat. Each engine produces 2200 hp (1641 kw) continuous duty at 1800 RPM. For full engine specs please see “products” at: http://marine.cummins.com/

Each engine drives through a Hitachi NICO MGN1226V gear with 4.19:1 reduction. The propellers have a diameter of 1950 m/m (76.77 inches) and a 1450 m/m ( 57 inch) pitch.

A roomy and well finished wheelhouse.

Designed in-house by Hankook Shipbuilding, the ferry has capacities for up to 418 people and 50 passenger cars. A crew of four can handle the vessel, which makes 17 knots with a full load and 18 knots light.
