377 August 2006 Cummins-Powered Coastal Tanker
Currently building at Zuhai Shipbuilding Industry Company is the 2700 DWT tanker to be named M/V An Shing. With an overall length of 64.9 meters, a 16-meter beam and a molded depth of 6.5 meters, the ship will have a 4000-ton displacement. Powered by a pair of 16-cylinder four-stroke Cummins KTA50-M2 diesels each rated for 1400 hp at 1800 RPM the vessel will cruise at 8.5 knots when full loaded with 2700 tons of diesel or heavy oil. Tanks for ship's fuel contain 60 tons and fresh water tanks hold 20 tons. This combination gives the vessel with a 12-member crew a voyage endurance of six days. A pair of Cummins-powered 108 kW generator sets meets the ship's electrical service needs. Two cargo pumps can each discharge 700 cubic meters per hour. A hydraulic crane with a 15-meter boom can lift two tons on deck. Classed by CCS for voyages in the Hong Kong, Macao and coastal China, the M/V An Shing will be registered in Hong Kong.
