Innovative Z-Drive Coal Carrier

There is a lot of coal moved north from Indonesian coal mines to fuel-hungry Southeast Asian nations. Most of this has been moved by tug’s towing barges, but recently a powered barge has entered the trade. The Singaporean registered 3,695 gross ton Kimtrans SPB 3208 is powered by a pair of 1200 HP Cummins KTA38 1200 HP (895 kW) at 1800 RPM main engines. The engines turn into a pair of HRP azimuthing drives ( http://www.hrp.nl/site/ ).

The powered barge is 320- by 80- feet with a 20-foot molded depth. Accommodation is provided for a crew of 15.
