292 Penguin Shipyard Building for Pelican Offshore Singapores Penguin Shipyard International is well along on the building of a 40-meter aluminum crew supply boat for their associated company Pelican Offshore Services also of Singapore. The high speed vessel is being built to a design by the shipyards naval architect Mr. Biweibo. With accommodation for eight crew and 70 passengers the vessel will be powered by three Cummins KTA M2 engines each developing 1800 HP (1343 kW) at 1900 RPM. The 50-litre V16 engines will turn 1.36-meter propellers through Twin Disc 6848 SC marine gears to give the boat a 30-knot design speed. The as yet unnamed boats 7.5-meter beam and 3.65-meter molded depth will contain tankage for 60,000 liters of fuel and 36,000 liters of water along with 800 liters of lube oil. The cargo deck will handle 70 metric tons at up to 2.5 tons per square meter. Delivery of the offshore crew supply boat is scheduled for July 2005. Penguin Shipyard, well established in the fast ferry and crew boat market, is also building a 36-meter crew boat. The firms parent company, Penguin Boat International Ltd (www.penguin.com.sg/), is Singapores largest ferry operator.
