279 QSK60 for Greek Ferry Repower
The Cummins Engine company announces that the Greek car ferry Thassos VI has completed the year 2004 following a successful repower in the second quarter of the year. The vessels original KTA50-M2 main engines the generated 1600 HP were replaced with a pair of Cummins recently introduced QSK60-M engines each generating 2200 HP at 1800 RPM. Gears for the new engines are Reintjes WAF 842 with 4:1 ratios. The original 1720 cm four-blade props have been retained. The repower was carried out at the Panagiotakis Shipyard. The ferry, with an 81.5-metre length and 14.2-metre beam, has a capacity for 600 passengers and 135 cars. It regular run is between the Island of Thassos and the mainland ports of Keramotis Nestos and the port of Kavala in northern Greece.
