195 Australian Designed and Built Crew Boat
The October, Abeer Marine Services of Singapore took delivery of the first of the Abeer 38 class of aluminum crew boats from Australian builder Wavemaster International. The 34x8-metre vessel has a depth of 3.5 metres. The 87 square metre cargo deck has a load capacity of 1.5 tonnes per square metre. Built to a Wavemaster design the vessel has accommodation for a crew or eight and 122 passengers. "The comfortable cabin interior can be modified for different roles," explained Wavemaster Naval Architect Nick Barratt. Tankage on the vessel includes 50,000 litres of fuel, 10,000 litres of water and 500 litres of lube oil. Equipped for spill response the vessel has capacities for chemical oil dispersant and fire foam for the integral fire monitor. Main engines are three Cummins KTA38M2 main engines coupled to ZF4540 marine gears and turning 1100 m/m Teignbridge propellers. Each engine is heavy duty rated for 1300 HP at 1800 RPM. The aluminum boat achieved light boat speeds of 30 knots on sea trials. Electrical service is from a pair of Cummins Onan generator sets.
