160 Powerful Model-Bow Tug From Frank Basil Design In early January Hope Services of Dulac Louisiana delivered a 3400 HP ocean-going tug for Modern Continental Construction of Boston Massachusetts. The boat is 100 by 32 feet with a molded depth of 13 feet 9 inches. Currently towing a barge on its delivery trip the tug, named Ludwig E under the command of Capt. Gary Bushey and Chief Engineer John Dolliner. Designed by Frank Basil’s Entech and Associates of Houma LA the boat is powered by a pair of 16 cylinder Cummins KTA50 main engines rated for 1700 HP at 1800 RPM. The engines turn into Rentjes WAF-772 gears with rations of 7.087:1 and turning 87-inch Sound propellers in 88-inch Rice nozzles. The boat has a bollard pull of 60 tons. Accommodations are provided for up to eight people. Tankage includes 85,000 US gallons for fuel, 20,000 gallons water and 1500 gallons for lube oil. Gen sets are powered by Cummins series 6BT 5.9 litre engines with the same engine providing power for the towing winch.
