Eymard Marin Launches Triple Screw Pushboat

Gary Eymard, and his family firm put their latest pushboat in the water last August from their yard at Harvey Louisiana. The 70x28x9.5-foot boat was finished out alongside the dock for a September delivery. Named the "Kallie C. Eymard", the vessel features three Cummins KTA19 M3 engines producing a total of 1800 HP. Each engine turns into a Twin Disc 5202 gear with a 6:1 ratio and turning 66x54inch four-blade stainless Coolidge propellers from Jefferson Wheel. Gary Eymard reports that with a view to rising fuel prices, the centre engine has been set up with a shaft brake so that if a job only required 1200 HP they can shut down one engine to save on both hours and fuel.

Deck winches are a pair of Nabrico 40 ton electric over hydraulics loaded. Electrical power is provided by two Cummins 4B3.9 powered 35 Kw gen sets. Steering, designed by Don Strauss, is a full follow-up hydraulic with two 10 HP Marathon motors to for the flanking and steering rudders. An M&M bumper system has been installed on the push knees and around the bulwarks. A secondary work or fleet deck extends from the upper push knees to the second deck of the deck house to provide save working space and easy access to empty barges. The wheelhouse, on the third deck level, has a 25-foot above water eye level. Electronics included ICOM VHF phones, Furuno radar, Dahlenberg air horns and 19-inch Perko searchlights and running lights.

Accommodation on the second deck is for six crew with two double bunk rooms for crew and separate single-berth accommodations for the captain and pilot with shared washroom. A washer and dryer, fully equipped galley and a six ton air condition/heater system are also provided for crew comfort. Although the boat is for sale, initial plans are to work it alongside Eymard’s other two boats.
