115 CP Prop For Canadian Shrimper Launched by Caraquet Marine this spring, Sylvain Theriault’s 75-foot shrimper "Stelie" is proving an efficient fishing machine. A good part of this efficiency is due to the combination of a controllable pitch propellor and gear box, supplied by Hundested Propeller A/S, coupled to a Cummins KTA38 M0 main engine rated 850 HP at 1800 RPM. "The engine is equipped with Cummins’ Century fuel system and linked to the Cetrek digital readout on the instrument panel," explains Cummins Eastern Canada representative, Norm Ferris, "The Cetrek monitors the percentage of engine load, allowing the captain to continue his tow until the trawl has filled to a point where the load factor hits 100 percent. At that point the trawl is retrieved. Similarly on the long runs to and from the fishing grounds, RPM, engine loads and propeller pitch can be optimized for speed and fuel efficiency." Auxiliary power on the new vessel is provided by a Cummins 6BT that drives the hydraulics with a 45 Kw back-up gen set and a Cummins 4BT driving the primary 45 Kw genset.
